SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y., March 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) has announced the 2010 summer season of The Philadelphia Orchestra presented by HSBC Bank USA, N.A., August 4–21. The season is led by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Charles Dutoit. The Orchestra's complete schedule is available at www.spac.org.
- Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin returns to SPAC's stage to narrate Prokofiev's "Peter and The Wolf."
- The Orchestra performs with "Cirque de la Symphonie." The production, which includes aerial flyers, acrobats, dancers and jugglers, has been described as "dazzling and elegant."
- Soloists include Yo-Yo Ma, Sarah Chang, Garrick Ohlsson, Andre Watts and Kirill Gerstein.
- Repertoire features The Rite of Spring and The Firebird Suite by Stravinsky, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with choral accompaniment by the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, Barber's Overture to The School for Scandal, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 and more.
- Peter Oundjian, Rossen Milanov, Lawrence Foster, Jeff Tyzik and Steven Reineke guest conduct.
- Doug La Brecque, known for his leading role in The Phantom of the Opera, along with Christine Noll, who starred in Jekyll & Hyde, sing hits of Broadway past and present in A Century of Broadway.
- New York Pops Conductor Steven Reineke leads Wicked Divas, featuring favorite selections from Broadway's Wicked as well as Gypsy, Titanic and the opera Carmen.
- A "Farewell Concert" for Charles Dutoit and Chantal Juillet pays tribute to their SPAC legacy. Dutoit has been the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of The Orchestra's Saratoga Season since 1990; Juillet has been the Director of the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival since 1991. Each celebrates their final SPAC season this year.
Located in historic Saratoga Springs, New York, SPAC has been the summer home of The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1966. Just three hours from Boston, New York or Montreal, SPAC also presents Freihofer's Saratoga Jazz Festival, New York City Ballet, the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival, Lake George Opera and Live Nation concerts.
