SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The San Francisco Deltas, a new professional men's soccer team, today announced that the team will host its open tryouts November 11-12, 2016 in San Francisco. The tryouts will be held locally at the Crocker Amazon Soccer Fields and will be open to the public.
In preparation for the team's inaugural season kicking off in 2017, the tryouts offer players the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of the Deltas coaching staff and soccer operations personnel. Prospects will compete to earn an invitation to attend preseason training in January.
"This is an exciting milestone on the road to our inaugural season," said SF Deltas Head Coach, Marc Dos Santos. "Our top priority is to put a championship team on the field fueled by local players and we're looking forward to seeing local talent. It is important to us that everyone has an opportunity to be evaluated for a chance to earn a professional contract on our 2017 roster."
In addition to Dos Santos, José Carlos Brunoro, Consulting GM and Todd Dunivant, Director of Soccer Operations and former MLS player will be among those evaluating players during the tryouts process.
"Our overarching goal is to grow this sport for everyone in the Bay Area - more players, more teams, more fans," said Todd Dunivant, SF Deltas Director of Soccer Operations. "To do that, we've kept the registration fee to a minimum and plan to refund that fee to the players who are selected for Saturday's showcase. We've also invited scouts from the top professional and amateur clubs in the Bay Area to attend with the goal of increasing opportunities for players."
The format for November 11th will be 8 vs. 8 games consisting of 60 minutes each. Each player will play three 20 minute periods with two breaks of 5 minutes each. The smaller number of players on the field will allow players to stand out and get more touches on the ball. Select players will be invited to play in the 11 vs. 11 showcase on November 12th from which the Deltas coaching staff will invite at least one player to preseason training camp.
Registration materials and details are available now online at sfdeltas.com/tryouts. Spots are limited and are available on a first-come first-served basis, so interested participants are strongly encouraged to register as early as possible. All participants must be at least 18 years of age. Players are required to submit the necessary registration, release and health authorization forms along with a $75 nonrefundable fee. The players selected for Saturday's showcase will receive a registration fee refund. The purpose of the low fee is to cover administrative costs as well as increase the chances of finding local talent. The fee is well below the average fee charged by other professional soccer teams' tryouts in the U.S. ($129) and in California ($180).
