Samurai Japan and Tagboard Launch Snapchat Fan Engagement Campaign
Japan's national baseball team sets a digital first in Asia by partnering with Tagboard and Snapchat, offering fans a unique way to connect at iconic Tokyo Dome
REDMOND, Wash. and SAN FRANCISCO and TOKYO, Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Samurai Japan, Japan's national baseball team, hit a homerun last night with their fans by launching the team's Snapchat account and partnering with Tagboard. Samurai Japan created their own Snapchat account this week to showcase Snapchat content curated by Tagboard in the Tokyo Dome - a first for sports stadiums in Asia and just in time for one of the biggest baseball tournaments of the year in Asia.
"Samurai Japan is all about being innovative and offering the latest, cutting-edge technology to fans in an effort to make the game's experience more exciting," says Mr. Kenjiro Kato, Senior Manager of Business Operations and Public Relations at NPB Enterprise, the company that manages Samurai Japan. "Together with Snapchat and Tagboard, we are showcasing new and dynamic content while deepening fan engagement."
Fans at the stadium had the opportunity to easily add Samurai Japan on Snapchat. Fans had access to Samurai Japan's Snapchat stories within seconds, giving them something else to cheer about. For those who can't attend a game this weekend, the team's Snapchat account is samurai_jp.
"Sports teams and athletes around the globe have used Snapchat to brings fans closer than ever before - whether it's training for a big game, celebrating a win, or just having fun with their teammates," said Ben Schwerin, Director of Partnerships, Snap Inc. "We're so excited to have one of the world's best baseball teams, Samurai Japan, on board."
Samurai Japan has been a digital pioneer in the sports market in Asia. The baseball organization originally employed Tagboard two years ago, and has been working with the Seattle-area based social media software company ever since to display social content in embeds and live displays.
"We've seen sports fans embrace social media during games, and it's an honor to help bring Snapchat to the Tokyo Dome," Tagboard CEO Josh Decker said. "The faces of Samurai Japan fans will light up when they see their favorite team in a new way, through Snapchat."
The Tokyo Dome will host approximately 42,000 fans at each game during this weekend's tournament.
Tagboard has previously enhanced the user experience for sports fans in the United States by bringing Snapchat content to displays at NFL, MLB, and college football stadiums. Partnerships include the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Mariners, and UCLA.
