Salt Lake City Mission Announces the Launch of 'The Salt Lake Street News'

SALT LAKE CITY, May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Salt Lake City Mission is pleased to release its Premier monthly newspaper, "The Salt Lake Street News."

This First Edition will come out Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. M.S.T. The "Salt Lake Street News" is part of a larger International Movement of street newspapers.

"This is a Grassroots Movement to help the homeless, and the less fortunate of Salt Lake become self-employed, become motivated and live a better life. The Homeless are not helpless when you have the Salt Lake Street News," according to Brad Jaques, spokesman for The Salt Lake City Mission/Salt Lake Street News.

"Through this paper we will improve the community by deterring panhandling with honest opportunities for the poor and less fortunate of Salt Lake City. We will empower the homeless and poor by giving them an avenue to generate an honest income which can help them get off the streets. The information, contained in the street news, advocacy, and self-expression, will help overcome ignorance and create opportunities for real change, not just spare change," stated Jaques.

"Help a hard-working homeless man or woman. Please support our vendors by buying a paper when you see them. We are part of NASNA (North American Newspaper Assoc.). Vendors will be held to a strict 'code of conduct.' The paper will include local and national news about homelessness that other papers don't cover," finished Jaques.

The Salt Lake City Mission is a non-denominational Christian Church / Mission offering services to anyone in need. The Mission provides the homeless, disadvantaged and chemically dependent people in the Intermountain area with long-term recovery programs such as The Second Chance Ranch and UpWord Motions programs for men.
