Safety Insurance & Safe Roads Alliance Sponsor the Parent's Supervised Driving Guide
Safety & Safe Roads Team with Mass RMV, Further Commitment to Massachusetts Teen Driver Safety
BOSTON, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Safety Insurance (NASDAQ: SAFT), a leading provider of auto, home and commercial insurance in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and Safe Roads Alliance, a Massachusetts not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting safer driving, are excited to announce the release of The Parent's Supervised Driving Guide, in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Registry of Motor Vehicles (Mass RMV).
Continuing its effort to improve education and awareness for Massachusetts drivers, Safe Roads Alliance and Safety Insurance developed this program to provide a free resource to parents or guardians of every learner's permit recipient in Massachusetts.
According to the Mass RMV, new drivers are 14 times more likely to be injured in automobile accidents as compared to other groups. Parents and guardians are encouraged to take this opportunity to be involved in their teenagers' driving skills development and fully commit to driver safety on the road.
"Parents are key to ensuring that their teens develop good driving skills under all types of weather, traffic, and roadway conditions," said Rachel Kaprielian, Registrar of the Mass RMV. "This partnership allows us to get this information into the hands of every parent."
"One in five teenage drivers is involved in a crash in their first year of driving. Safety's priority remains keeping our roads safe for all drivers and we aspire to make the transition for parents of young drivers easier. This unique guide arms parents and teens with an incredibly useful tool," said George Murphy, vice president of marketing for Safety Insurance.
The Guide encourages parents and teens to drive in a variety of weather conditions and unfamiliar settings. It is divided into eleven skill sets such as parking, backing up, city and highway driving, and includes a log to record the required driving hours, skills covered, time and weather conditions. It also provides guidance for parents and additional tips for inexperienced drivers such as "Crash Avoidance Skills" and "Teens' Biggest Dangers."
"This program has the added benefit of reminding parents how to drive safely," said Jeff Larson, President of Safe Roads Alliance. "The program helps two generations; it's never too late to learn."
The booklet is available online at https://www.safetyinsurance.com/driversafety/parents_driving_guide.html and in hard copy at Mass RMV locations where learner's permits are offered.

About Safe Roads Alliance
Safe Roads Alliance was formed in 2006 as a not-for-profit Massachusetts organization dedicated to promoting safer driving.
Safe Roads provides educational services to all drivers on different aspects of driving safety, including: issues confronting elderly drivers, maintaining a vehicle for safe operation, child restraint systems, seat belt usage, reducing driving distractions, and driver courtesy and reduction of road-rage.
One of our primary programs is to provide drivers of all ages with access to driver training that far surpasses classes taken to obtain a license. Closed-course, hands-on, advanced driver strategies and techniques are learned in a safe, controlled environment with one goal: to make all drivers better drivers. Statistically teen drivers are the most important group for this training, but it is our feeling that every driver can improve their skills and would benefit from this program.
Safe Roads Alliance has partnered with In Control Advanced Driver Training and Safety Insurance to help reach these goals. Visit Safe Roads Alliance at http://www.saferoadsalliance.org/.
