Ryan and Adam Goldston, Co-Founders of Athletic Propulsion Labs, Selected to the Empact100 List
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Young Entrepreneurs Will Be Honored at the White House Today Along With Young Entrepreneurs From 100 Companies Who Contribute Over 2,500 Jobs and $374 Million to the U.S. Economy.
Ryan Goldston and Adam Goldston, the 24-year-old cofounders of Athletic Propulsion Labs®, LLC based in Los Angeles, CA have been named to the Empact100 list of the country's top young entrepreneurs and will be recognized at the White House in Washington, D.C. on November 17. They will be honored for their accomplishments and positive influence on the American economy. The Empact100 list has been created by Empact, in partnership with the Kauffman Foundation, Opportunity International, Global Entrepreneurship Week, and the Startup America Partnership.
The list was announced on November 3rd and candidates were judged based solely on reported revenue. Nominations were open to U.S. based individuals or companies that fulfilled the requirements of having all founders 30 years or younger as of December 30, 2011, and reported revenue over $100,000 in 2010, or 2011 to date.
Athletic Propulsion Labs was founded in 2009 by twin brothers Ryan and Adam Goldston, two former University of Southern California basketball players. Located in Los Angeles, California, the company is dedicated to the creation of world-class, breakthrough technology that significantly enhances the performance of athletes in a variety of sports. The inaugural product from Athletic Propulsion Labs®, the patented APL® Concept 1 basketball shoe and the recently introduced Concours, feature the revolutionary Load 'N Launch™ Technology. The patent-pending Load 'N Launch™ device is implanted in a cavity in the forefoot of the shoe and serves as a 'launch pad' by taking the energy exerted by the player and increasing lift with the aid of an intricate, spring-based propulsion system. In biomechanical testing at a leading west coast university laboratory, the Athletic Propulsion Labs® Concept 1 shoes delivered increases in vertical leap of up to 3.5 inches when compared against a leading competitive brand's most expensive basketball shoe. The APL® Concept 1 and Concours shoes are sold on the company's website at http://www.AthleticPropulsionLabs.com and normally at $195.00 per pair.
APL's Concept 1 basketball shoes were introduced on March 24, 2010. The NBA ban of the APL® Concept 1 shoes occurred on October 19, 2010 and marked the first time in the 64-year history of the NBA that a shoe was banned because it provided an "undue competitive advantage".
Both the success of Athletic Propulsion Labs and the Empact100 list are testament to the impact young entrepreneurs have on the American economy. The 100 companies on the list are responsible for contributing over 2,500 jobs and over $374 million in revenue. More information about the demographics of the awardees can be seen on these infographics.
The event will provide each Empact100 list member the opportunity to pledge their mentorship and wealth to the field of entrepreneurship, which will support Empact & Opportunity International's Future of Entrepreneurship Pledge movement. Also, they will be challenged to fund one loan for an entrepreneur in a developing country through Opportunity International, the second largest microfinance bank in the world.
