DALLAS, Oct. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelli Mulloy, President of The Inline Group, will kick off this year's Mid-Atlantic Physician Recruitment Alliance (MAPRA) Educational Conference with a presentation focused on the unique challenges rural health facilities face when trying to attract primary care physicians to their organization.
Mulloy will stress that rural health care facilities must have a strategic recruitment plan that recognizes factors that are outside of their ability to control and those that are within their sphere of control. The plan must factor in the increasing number of employment options physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) have in today's health care environment. Most of all, the plan must be targeted to the right audience with the right messages at the right time. Mulloy describes the targeted model and how each component supported the other. The plan must also emphasize retaining recruited talent by creating a comprehensive infrastructure designed to create a win-win scenario for the organization and the physician. A solid, strategic plan can tip the challenging environment in favor of the health care organization.
"While physician recruitment is a challenge for all health care facilities these days, rural facilities must deal with some unique pressures," says Mulloy. "They must be realistic and face these pressures head-on in a well-designed primary care recruitment plan that is focused on meeting the candidate's financial and quality of life needs as well as the opportunity for the physician to succeed and sustain his or her success. For residents and practicing physicians alike, location is often more important than salary. The overall compensation package is generally a strong second followed by other quality of life and quality of career considerations. We suggest that every rural facility conduct an organizational assessment that will provide insight into the organization's readiness to launch a successful recruitment initiative. Then, and only then, can the organization design a well-conceived plan that focuses on each component of the targeted model."
Mulloy will remind attendees that a mobile strategy is a must-have component for their overall physician recruitment plan. "Staying in front of potential candidates with information that is available when and where they want it can be the difference between a successful recruit and a missed opportunity."
