Rubicon Property Launches First Ever Social Entrepreneurial Real Estate Brokerage Firm
-- New York Based Real Estate Firm to Provide Clean Water for the Developing World; Success Will be Measured in Lives Impacted, Not Earnings --
NEW YORK, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Rubicon Property, a full-service real estate brokerage firm, formally launched its business operations today, heralding in a new era of corporate responsibility. With an innovative business model that relies on the principles of social entrepreneurship, Rubicon will set a new standard for excellence in business.
Rubicon will connect the essential element of living in New York City -- real estate -- with the essential element of living in the developing world -- clean water. The firm will allocate funds from each transaction it closes to the nonprofit charity: water, which works to provide clean water to underdeveloped countries. Rubicon will also host events and fundraising drives to engage the philanthropic community to donate toward this worthy effort.
"We choose to measure our success not in commissions earned, but rather by calculating how many lives we have impacted," said Rubicon Property CEO Jason Haber.
As part of its mission, Rubicon has launched its 'Profits and Purpose' business model. As Haber recently told The Wall Street Journal, the firm gives equal weight to earning a profit and serving a larger purpose. Unlike with a traditional real estate firm, earning money will not be the end goal, but instead the chief objective will be to make a difference in the world. Mr. Haber and company co-founder, Cory Haber, developed the model after a decade of traditional real estate experience.
"Our clients can help literally make a difference in the world, and still get the very best service and professionalism they would expect from a trusted real estate brokerage firm," added Mr. Haber. "There is no opportunity cost or trade-off by working with us."
The catalyst for Rubicon Property was Jason Haber's refusal last September to rent an apartment to Muammar Qadaffi, unless the Libyan government agreed to send Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi back to Scotland to be imprisoned for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Thousands of people wrote to Haber after the incident to thank him for taking such a strong stand. He then realized it was possible to work in real estate and have an impact on people's lives.
