Roanoke Cement Company's Castle Hayne Site Honored for Safety
TROUTVILLE, Va., June 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Roanoke Cement Company's Castle Hayne terminal was honored this week by the North Carolina state government for its safety record. North Carolina Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry presented the award to the cement terminal's management for an injury-free year at the terminal in 2009. The award ceremony was held at the Cape Fear Community College North Campus in Castle Hayne, NC.
This is the second time this year that the North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) presented a 1st Year Gold Safety Award to a Roanoke Cement Company (RCC) site. Last month, the NCDOL presented RCC's Winston-Salem site with the same award.
The NCDOL safety awards program recognizes private and public firms throughout the state that achieve and maintain outstanding safety records. To qualify for the North Carolina Annual Safety Awards, a firm must have no fatalities and have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group during the calendar year at the site.
