MADISON, Wis., June 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RMT, Inc. (RMT), a leading renewable energy engineering and construction company, joined First Wind on June 14, 2011, for a community celebration to commemorate the start of commercial operations for the 102-MW Milford Wind Phase II project.

RMT provided engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the civil and electrical infrastructure for Milford II, including the installation of 68 1.5-MW GE turbines. RMT was responsible for the entire construction scope and self-performed the civil work, which consisted of roads, crane paths and pads, turbine foundations, as well as the turbine erection and mechanical completion. Construction was completed with zero lost time accidents, and commercial operations began at Milford II in May 2011.
"Once again, RMT did an excellent job building this project," said First Wind President and Chief Financial Officer Michael Alvarez. "This project was on time and on budget. RMT remains an excellent partner for First Wind as, together, we're building projects that deliver clean, renewable energy to homes and businesses, while putting people to work and creating real economic opportunity."
RMT also led the construction of First Wind's Milford I project in 2009. Together, Milford Phases I and II represent the two largest wind energy projects in Utah, with a combined capacity of 306 MW. In addition, RMT built First Wind's Kahuku Wind project in Hawaii, and is currently building the Sheffield Wind project in Vermont.
Commitment to Clean Energy
The Milford II celebration comes on the heels of RMT's recent announcement about the sale of its industrial and remediation-oriented environmental business division. This transaction will allow RMT to focus exclusively on the siting, permitting, engineering, and construction of renewable energy facilities.
"Projects like Milford demonstrate RMT's commitment to specializing in clean energy, and to continuing to build a performance record, a deeply skilled and experienced workforce, and a competitive pricing structure to meet our clients' needs," said RMT President Steve Johannsen.
Over the past decade, RMT has provided construction, engineering, design, and development services for over 3,800 MW of renewable energy across the U.S. In 2011, the company has been selected to design and build ten wind energy projects totaling nearly 1,100 MW and eight utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling 55 MW. These projects bring RMT's total renewable energy portfolio to over 4,900 MW.
