WASHINGTON, July 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), Chairman of the Congressional Urban Caucus, issues the following statement concerning Congressman Charlie Rangel of New York:

"Haven't we learned anything this week about jumping to conclusions? The railroading of Shirley Sherrod at USDA should be a lesson learned about hasty judgment and action based on inadequate, even false information. That lesson must be applied to current case of Congressman Charlie Rangel.

"The House Ethics Committee has procedures to deal with any allegations concerning Mr. Rangel. The Congressman welcomes a full and fair hearing, and this process must be allowed to proceed before we reach any conclusions about his conduct. Charlie Rangel, who has served his constituents, this House and the American people long and well, deserves nothing less."
