RedBrownandBlue.com Adds Nationally-Syndicated Columnist Ruben Navarrette and Houston Press Columnist Shea Serrano to its Roster of Multicultural Writers
SAN ANTONIO, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- RedBrownandBlue.com (RBB), a national political and social commentary website that aims to serve as a two-way bridge between grassroots multicultural communities and mainstream media and influencers, announced today the addition of respected, nationally-syndicated columnist Ruben Navarrette to its team of regular contributors. Navarrette is a member of the editorial board of The San Diego Union-Tribune and a nationally-syndicated columnist with The Washington Post Writers Group. He is also a regular commentator on National Public Radio's "Tell Me More With Michel Martin."
"Ruben Navarrette is an important and enduring voice in the landscape of American political commentary," says Rudy Ruiz, founding editor of the RBB. "He's opened lots of doors for Latino journalists and pundits in the mainstream, but he also pulls no punches. He's an independent thinker. By bringing him onto our team we're furthering our goal of reflecting the diversity of opinion within multicultural communities, and helping us make those opinions heard by broader audiences, from the people on the street to the influencers and high-level decision makers."
Shea Serrano, a seasoned freelance writer living in Houston, is a columnist for the Houston Press and Houston magazine and covers nightlife and the city's thriving music scene. Serrano is a native of San Antonio but has lived in Houston for nearly five years. For RBB, he'll cover national pop-culture issues and events.
"Shea is an outstanding writer whose wit, humor and straight-forward style sucks you into his pieces," says Rodriguez. "I know that's what his writing does for me. We approached Shea because we think he could appeal to the young, educated and empowered reader who can feel excited and energized when visiting his columns on our site. He'll add spice and flavor to our content."
RBB was founded in 2008 to create a community of intelligent, passionate thinkers dedicated to the advancement of multicultural communities with a desire to express their views, participate in the national dialogue, and contribute to the evolution of the American Dream in a way that patriotically cherishes the past while optimistically embracing the future.
The year promises to be an exciting one for RBB as its two-fold vision of providing editorial commentary to media outlets searching to incorporate more multicultural viewpoints into their news platforms; and serving as an entity that also produces original in-depth research and reporting on important aspects of the Hispanic community featured on RedBrownandBlue.com, comes to life.
Today, the site's founder Rudy Ruiz contributes regularly to CNN.com and has been published in 35 other publications throughout the country. Managing editor, Rolando Rodriguez, covers the emergence of the Latino hip-hop community for the Houston Press and also contributes to New York-based magazine, CATALINA, interviewing celebrities like Eva Longoria and media personalities such as Telemundo anchor, Maria Celeste Arraras, who break Latina stereotypes in entertainment and media. The contributions are provided to these publications under the RBB umbrella. Throughout 2009, RBB writers have contributed to numerous general market and ethnic newspapers and websites across the country providing unique multicultural perspectives to mainstream issues, including South Carolina's The State, the District of Columbia's Washington Examiner and the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, to name a few.
From an original research and reporting standpoint, in the second quarter of this year, RBB will unveil the results of a landmark national survey of 1100 undocumented immigrants regarding their sentiments over various versions of immigration reform, their desire to adopt American customs and values, and the stereotypes that are typically associated with this fast-growing group of newly-arrived Latinos. Original broadcast and print reporting will follow the release of the study and be offered to potential media partners looking to shed accurate light and close-up, honest storytelling of this group.
RBB offers new columns daily by writers from across the country in English and Spanish and topics extend from sports to religion to politics. From the Hispanic CEO of an award-winning advertising agency, to the young, Black world traveler, writers share a range of experiences and outlooks that attracts diverse age, ethnicity and income groups.
