Red Oak Realty Partners With Rebuilding Together Oakland, The Clorox Company and Bank of America to Restore Peralta Hacienda Historical Park
Restoration Efforts to Include Antonio Peralta Home Built in 1870
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Red Oak Realty is participating today in Rebuilding Together Oakland's initiative to restore the six acre Peralta Hacienda Historical Park site in the Fruitvale community of Oakland. The site includes the Antonio Peralta House, a local and state landmark, which was built in 1870, and its surroundings.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Antonio Peralta House reflects the era of California after the Gold Rush.
Working together, employees of Red Oak Realty, The Clorox Company, Bank of America, GCI Contractors and Blank and Cables are volunteering today, working on a number of restoration projects. The volunteers, totaling 300, will plant a sustainable garden of native plants and foods, restore the Peralta Creek bed, paint buildings and conduct general landscaping activities.
"Encouraging sustainability in home ownership and the community is an important aspect of the way we do business at Red Oak Realty," said Kevin Hamilton, CFO for Red Oak Realty. "So, we are thrilled to help restore the Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, which we think represents an invaluable project for Oakland. We are happy to partner with Rebuilding Together Oakland and other leading Bay Area businesses to help ensure this important landmark continues to thrive for the benefit of Oakland families."
"The impact of this restoration project will be tremendous, offering Oakland's youth with a unique opportunity to learn about farming, cultivation and the history of early California, which can be an anomaly in our urban environment," said Kym Luqman, Executive Director for Rebuilding Together Oakland. "We are grateful for Red Oak Realty's support and its recognition of our vision to improve the lives of residents and our community by preserving Oakland's vital natural resources."
Tranquility in an Urban Center
The Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, a nearby haven away from the frenetic activity of the city, is a rich educational venue for Oakland's youth. An important community hub, the park site features courses in outdoor stewardship, gardening, cooking, the arts, and early California history. The Peralta Creek nature area's wooded stretch of creek represents 15,000 years of habitation by Native Californians and the region's primitive plant and animal life.
Event Details
The Rebuilding Together Oakland event will take place today at the Peralta Hacienda Historical Home and Park in the Fruitvale district of Oakland at 2465 34th Avenue. The site is easily accessible at the corner of Coolidge Avenue and Hyde Street.
