Recovery Ranch of Santa Ynez Pledges to Open Its Doors to Displaced Addicts and Alcoholics in the Wake of Hurricane Harvey
SANTA YNEZ, Calif., Sept. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Recovery Ranch of Santa Ynez has decided that there is more to be done than simply assisting with clean-up efforts after Hurricane Harvey. In the coming days, 20 men affected by the recent disaster in Eastern Texas will be offered a warm bed and a safe, structured, and welcoming environment to continue their fight against addiction.
The main ambition of the Recovery Ranch in these trying times is simple: to bring the same enthusiasm, commitment, and selflessness practiced in their sober lives at The Ranch to the individuals devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Their goal is to provide a safe and welcoming refuge for those struggling with addiction who were displaced by the floods, so they can continue their journey on the road of recovery.
That being said, the Recovery Ranch is no stranger to altruism and hard work. A fundamental part of building a life of sobriety is having a strong work ethic, something that the men of the Recovery Ranch know all too well.
In February of 2015, 14 men from the program travelled to Costa Rica to build a home for then 70-year-old Emile Vasquez. In 2016, without hesitation, a group of charitable and willing young men boarded a plane to Fayetteville, North Carolina with nothing more than their backpacks to help those in need in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. They returned home having cleared wreckage from thirteen homes in just one week.
The Recovery Ranch is a men's structured sober living home located just north of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. The program was founded with the intent to give men of all ages and walks of life the opportunity to work on the things that encourage their dependence on drugs and alcohol, while building relationships focused on helping each other change. Through utilizing John Wooden's principles of character, work ethic, and selflessness, and the foundations of accountability and brutal honesty, the gentlemen of Recovery Ranch learn how to live a responsible, purposeful, and fulfilling life in sobriety.
