"The companies that have made great progress in the last few months are ones that have being doing important things like generating revenue," wrote TechCrunch Europe editor Mike Butcher in announcing the new list.
Rebtel, which makes it possible to use any phone in 51 countries to call anywhere in the world for free or just pennies per minute, experienced dramatic growth in 2009. Revenue grew by more than 75 percent, and that momentum has continued into 2010 with a 13 percent increase in revenue in January from December.
More than 100,000 new users join Rebtel every month and more than 80 percent of that growth during the last 18 months has come organically through word of mouth. In addition, Rebtel's new Computer Calls service, for making free or super-cheap calls from any country to anywhere in the world has won more than 50,000 regular users in the few short months since its introduction.
"We have continued to focus on our core product ensuring excellent quality calling at exceptionally low rates, and this is what the market is looking for," said Andreas Bernstrom, Rebtel's CEO. "Its nice to see the growth coming organically as it justifies the hard work we've put into our service."
Rebtel just lowered rates for the third time in two months, becoming the lowest-cost provider to a host of global destinations. Bernstrom said Rebtel will continue to lower rates where possible but in a sustainable way and without compromising the call quality or the service.
