ReadyPA.org Offers Tools to Prepare for Winter Storms, Other Emergencies
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As citizens prepare for a major snow storm that will affect much of the state, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency is reminding the public that ReadyPA provides helpful information to prepare for all types of emergencies.
"Detailed information about how to prepare for a winter storm is available online at ReadyPA.org," said PEMA Director Robert P. French. "We provide checklists for emergency kits for your home, car and workplace."
French said winter storms are particularly dangerous because snow and ice can hinder travel, and because wet, heavy snow can bring down power lines and trees and strong winds can create whiteout conditions.
"Most people don't think about an extended power outage, but it's a very real possibility during a winter storm," French said. "Prepare now for a winter storm, and you'll also be prepared for storms this spring and summer."
French said a home emergency kit should include basics such as: one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days; non-perishable food; extra medication; battery-operated radio and flashlights; first aid kit; and any special needs items such as baby and pet supplies.
The commonwealth's ReadyPA campaign encourages citizens to take three basic steps: Be Informed, Be Prepared, Be Involved.
