Ralph Rucci & Hiroto Rakusho 'collaboration' Art Event at The Xchange, a Celebrity Filled End to NY Fashion Week
NEW YORK, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Renowned fashion designer Ralph Rucci and Kyoto Gold Leaf Master Hiroto Rakusho will present their recent art works at "collaboration" a Reception & Exhibition, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., this evening at The Xchange, 460 West 28th Street, 9th Floor, as part of their two person show at Onishi Gallery.
Included will be four large scale works painted in acrylic by Rucci on gold and silver leafed Japanese washi paper panels created by Rakusho, which mark a rich, nuanced, cross-cultural understanding.
Ralph Rucci has been working with the most luxurious fabrics and specialized collaborators in the world for almost thirty years, creating women's clothing considered by many to be wearable art. He is also a fine artist whose paintings have been the subject of four solo exhibits since 2005. His important, 10 panel, autobiographical, psychological investigative work, "Centering Myself, 1957 - 2010" will be the focal point of the show.
Hiroto Rakusho, a Kyoto resident, was certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a Master of Traditional Handicrafts in 1997. He has worked to expand metal leaf design as an art form, collaborating with artists and students from diverse backgrounds in Japan and abroad. Since 2005, he has held three solo shows, two in Kyoto museums and one in New York. His "Kabuki Drama," a pair of six-panel screens on Japanese washi paper finished with gold leaf, is an example of his use of digital techniques to reproduce aged ancient art works stored in Kyoto's shrines, temples and cultural properties and return them to public view.
Non-profit Kyoto Culture Association which administers this program, will receive 10% of the proceeds from sales of this exhibition. Nana Onishi, Director, Onishi Gallery, 521 West 26th Street, Chelsea, which will host the exhibition through February 27th, said, "I am honored to present two artists who live art and share the creative sensibility of Kyoto."
