Race Car Driver David Cheng Teams Up With MLB Star C.J. Wilson to Bring Children's Charities Awareness to the Rolex 24 At Daytona
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- David Cheng, a rising young professional race car driver, will carry the charity logo of MLB player C.J. Wilson Children's Charities on the hood of Cheng's BMW M6 race car for the 49th annual Rolex 24 At Daytona, the season-opener for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, on Saturday, Jan. 29. Cheng will be driving for PR1 Motorsports, owned and operated by Bobby Oergel, in the biggest race of his career.
"For the past 3 years I've been developing with PR1 Motorsports and this year I feel very privileged to be driving at Daytona with them. To have a cause like C.J. Wilson's Children Charities on board, makes this even better," states David Cheng about his race team.
Cheng will be joined at Daytona by Wilson, who will attend the driver's autograph session and be watching the racing action as Cheng competes against the best drivers in the world in one of the most prestigious road racing events known to man. Having raced together in last month's 25 Hours of Thunderhill, and winning their class, it is a natural fit to promote C.J. Wilson's Children's Charity at an event like the Rolex 24. Wilson and Cheng met in 2008 at Skip Barber Racing School and have been friends ever since.
"We're really excited to be expanding our charity promotion here at the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Outside of baseball, my other main passion is racing and to take this step towards the huge, national stage with Bobby at PR1 and David Cheng Racing shows how we're willing to align with new partners. It's a great opportunity as a fan of the sport and as a racer myself to bring my baseball fans into contact with top tier pro racing. We have lofty goals as a charity and will be pushing further down this road in the future as well!" states C.J. Wilson.
C.J. Wilson's Children's Charities raises funds, awareness, and most importantly, youth participation in community service and charitable giving that will directly benefit children and their families affected by chronic life-threatening illnesses, or dealing with financial and social challenges. Aiming to encourage a more compassionate and responsible society, focusing on inspiring local children, teens and young adults to be involved in charity at an early age, making it entertaining and personally rewarding.
The 2011 racing schedule for Cheng includes a full season racing in multiple series in both Asia and North America.
The race is broadcast live on SPEED from 3-10 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 29, and again from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. EST on Sunday, Jan. 30.
