Quincy Jones Endorses Danette Meyers for District Attorney of Los Angeles County
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Quincy Jones today announced his endorsement of Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers for District Attorney of Los Angeles County. The recipient of 27 Grammy Awards and a record 79 Grammy nominations stated:
"Danette Meyers' credentials as an accomplished trial lawyer and veteran criminal prosecutor are without question. But what makes Danette unique is she understands that the justice system extends beyond the criminal side. Throughout her 25 year career she has spent her own time outside the District Attorney's office to ensure that the entire justice system is working. Danette's broader community perspective is key to the effective pursuit of justice. I wholeheartedly endorse Danette Meyers as the next District Attorney of Los Angeles County."
Quincy Jones' career as a conductor, musical arranger, film composer and producer has spanned over six decades. In 1964 he arranged and conducted Frank Sinatra's It Might as Well Be Swing. That same year while at Mercury Records he became the first African American Vice President of a record company. He has written over 33 motion picture scores and produced the highest selling album of all time, Michael Jackson's Thriller.
As a social activist, Quincy Jones has been involved in numerous projects. He produced "We are the World" in 1985 which raised over $63 million for humanitarian causes. His other involvements include the Quincy Jones Listen Up Foundation, a nonprofit that connects youth with education, music, technology and culture including intercultural exchange between underprivileged youths from Los Angeles and South Africa. In 2004 he launched the We Are The Future initiative which has established municipal child centers in several countries where youth are trained to run child-based programs in health, nutrition, technology, sports and arts.
Danette Meyers stated, "Quincy Jones' many social and professional accomplishments continue to inspire me to always perform at the top of my profession. Throughout his career, Quincy Jones has stood for honesty and integrity. He has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping the less fortunate and energized others to participate in the fight against poverty and injustice. The international success of 'We are the World' highlighted gross disparities in living conditions and the lack of basic human necessities that so many continue to face.
"The world will never forget the enormous contributions of Quincy Jones to the arts and his courageous struggle for equality. His trust in my vision of 'Smart Justice' will help me to bring true reform to the justice system in Los Angeles County and I am honored by his endorsement of my candidacy for District Attorney."
Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers, a Los Angeles native and 25 year veteran prosecutor has already received numerous endorsements from a diverse group of distinguished individuals. She is considered a top contender in the June 2012 primary.
