Quentin Tarantino a Green Globe Film Award Front Runner for Best Director
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "I think the opening chapter of Inglourious Basterds is one of the best things I've ever written," Quentin Tarantino has been quoted as saying. We'll see if the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences and the legion of worldwide movie lovers voting at the Green Globe Film Awards agree next month. "Inglourious Basterds" was nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing, surpassing the seven nominations of his 1994 film "Pulp Fiction". Tarantino is also leading nominations in the Green Globe Film Awards in the categories of Best Director and 10 Best Filmmakers of the Decade. "Inglourious Basterds" was also nominated for Best Action Film.
Whereas Oscars are selected through a peer judging system, voting for the Green Globe Film Awards is conducted by movie viewers around the world themselves. Film categories for the Green Globes are on an international scale with 43 of the 100 awards being international. The 2010 Green Globe Film Awards International Film Category is "Asian Films".
Both award ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles with the Oscars at the Kodak Theater on March 7th and the Green Globe Film Awards at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel on March 23rd. In 2007 director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer and actor Quentin Tarantino was named by Total Film as the 12th-greatest director of all time, just behind one of his influences, Akira Kurosawa – the Japanese film director who will be honored at the 2010 Green Globe Film Awards with a celebrity tribute to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Kurosawa's birth.
