CHICAGO, Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent survey from The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., found that the majority (91 percent) of moms feel it is important their child has a nourishing meal or snack before physical activity1, yet only about 31 percent of moms say they have an easy time finding those foods that are also simple to give to their children2. Quaker's ongoing partnership with The Chicago Fire Soccer Club aims to deliver the powerful combination of whole grain oats paired with soccer as part of their commitment to educating and inspiring families to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

While three out of four moms consider whole grains to be a nourishing snack or meal for their children3, less than one percent of kids are actually getting the daily recommended amount of whole grains in their diets.4 Quaker's portfolio strives to bridge that gap so that moms can conveniently help fuel their families before, during and after physical activity.
"For more than a century, Quaker has offered energy from whole grains that families want for an active lifestyle, through products they love – from innovative breakfasts like Quaker Real Medleys to snacks like tasty Quaker Big Chewy Granola Bars," says Jose Luis Prado, President, Quaker Foods North America. "Pairing our nourishment credentials with The Chicago Fire's leadership in soccer helps round out the important healthy living message for the families we serve," he adds.
As part of the partnership, Quaker serves as the title sponsor of The Chicago Fire Juniors, the club's youth player development program that supports more than 10,000 soccer kids and families in Chicago and nationally. This past weekend, Quaker and The Chicago Fire teamed up to host The Quaker Invitational, which brought together thousands of youth players representing 130 Chicago Fire Juniors teams from around the country for a weekend of soccer, community and fun. The two winning youth teams earned a chance to play on The Chicago Fire's home field, Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. Each player in the tournament received a free game ticket to attend The Chicago Fire vs. Montreal Impact MLS game at Toyota Park where they watched the Fire beat the Impact, 2 to 1.
"The inaugural Quaker Invitational showcased our joint commitment in action, embodied by the inspirational Chicago Fire Juniors players," said Chicago Fire Chief Operating Officer Atul Khosla. "It is a privilege to continue to partner with a trusted brand like Quaker that shares the same sense of commitment to fueling healthy families as The Chicago Fire."
