Progress in 2010 Projected for NY Construction
Stimulus funding provides lift in public works and utilities, reports McGraw-Hill Construction
NEW YORK, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Construction, part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), has released the 2010 New York Construction Outlook. Construction starts for the New York metropolitan area (which includes the five New York City boroughs and 18 other counties across New York, Long Island, Northern New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) are expected to grow 22% to $28.8 billion in 2010. The public works and utilities sector will lead the way with a boost from stimulus funding, increasing 30% in 2010 to $9.6 billion.
Highlights of the report conclude:
- Nonresidential construction starts will grow 15% on net in 2010, as commercial and industrial starts drop 4%, while institutional construction starts increase 24%.
- Nonbuilding construction starts are projected to improve 30% in 2010.
- Residential construction starts will recover from last year's 53% decline with a 24% advance this year.
