EXPERT ALERTS:
Record Health Care Fraud Investigation Involving Telemedicine and Medical Equipment
Edgar Bueno
Partner
Morris Manning & Martin, LLP
Bueno is available to discuss federal and local healthcare fraud investigations, including Medicare and Medicaid -- specifically the record fraud bust announced April 9, 2019: "This is truly an 'all-hands on deck' coordinated effort by law enforcement, an approach which will likely become more common when trying to stop health care fraud on a large scale (a nationwide conspiracy) and essentially in real-time. The breadth of the investigation shows that health care fraud enforcement is not focused solely on the opioid crisis. Whenever the Medicare Fraud Strike Force is involved, they are looking for big, headline-grabbing cases. Many of these defendants will inevitably 'flip' and testify on behalf of the government in order to obtain credit at sentencing. The question is how far will the investigation reach and how many more providers will get caught up in this already wide net. The focus of the investigation appears to be a coordinated scheme involving telemedicine, which has been a hot topic in health care innovation recently. Hopefully, these prosecutions will not put telemedicine in a bad light, as there can be tremendous patient benefits."
Bueno is a former assistant U.S. attorney and chief of the Civil Division for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia.

Home Improvement and DIY: Environmental Issues
Robert Weitz, CMI
Founder & Principal
RTK Environmental Group
Weitz is available to discuss environmental issues related to home improvement, renovations, gardening, remodeling and DIY projects: "When spring comes, many of us are eager to get moving on home improvements. But before you start sanding and swinging that hammer, there are a few important things to think about: What type of surfaces and materials will you or your contractor be disturbing? Is there chipping paint? Smell of mildew? Crumbling pipe insulation? If any or all of the above, you'll need to take some precautions. Otherwise, you may be subjecting yourself and your family to dangerous health risks, caused by the very particles you've disturbed."
Weitz, a Certified Microbial Investigator, can also offer tips on: preparing and planning for a renovation; hurricane preparation and cleanup; protecting your family from environmental toxins like lead, asbestos, and mold during home improvement projects; how to prepare your garden soil before planting to avoid toxic crops. He is based in Stamford, Conn.

Life Lessons From 'Game of Thrones'
Dr. John Huber
Chairman
Mainstream Mental Health
As the final season of "Game of Thrones" premieres, Dr. Huber can share his thoughts on life lessons the show has taught us: "As a psychologist, I am here to tell you that 'Game of Thrones' can be educational and may help many of you avoid the pitfalls of life. Here are some of them: 1) Relationship skills: You can learn a lot about whether you are in a good relationship by observing and comparing what Sansa Stark has had to deal with during her marriage to Ramsay Bolton. Can't find the right partner? Think of everything Shae went through finding a rich man, only to have his family turn on her then force him to marry someone else. She even had to be his wife's chamber maid! The horror. Having trouble deciding who you are? Arya Stark has had it worse. They even called her the girl with no name. We all have friends that are two-faced; well, Arya has them all beat. 2) Business skills: We can learn how to be an effective boss by observing the actions of the Greyjoys. King Robert shows how you can be in charge, but also enjoy other things life has to offer (in his case, it's excessive drinking, women on the side, and hunting). King Robert's overindulgences and lack of balance, however, lead to his untimely death -- this is a very powerful lesson. When it comes to determination, we can observe Daenerys, who slept, killed, and burned her clothes off to get to the top. Not to say that in the modern world a person has to engage in these extreme practices to succeed. The essence of Daenerys is 'take action, do whatever it takes, seize every opportunity' until you attain your goal. Don't like your job or future prospects? Look no further than Hodor, the underdog and fan favorite. He turned out to be a glorified doorman. After all those years of training, that general studies undergraduate degree isn't so bad after all."
Dr. Huber is chairman for Mainstream Mental Health, a nonprofit organization that brings lasting and positive change to the lives of individuals that suffer from mental health issues. A mental health professional for more than 20 years, Dr. Huber is a clinical forensic psychologist and a practitioner with privileges at two long-term acute-care hospitals. He has appeared on more than 300 top-tier radio shows and 30 national television programs, and is the host of "Mainstream Mental Health Radio," which is heard nationwide and features interviews with today's top mental health professionals.
