Private Clinics in Toronto First in North America to Offer Women Mammography With the Lowest Possible Dose
TORONTO, March 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The women of Canada will soon benefit from low-dose mammography. Trillium Radiology Associates, which operates private diagnostic imaging facilities in Toronto and Mississauga, has invested in four digital mammography systems from the IT and medical technology company Sectra (NASDAQ OMX Stockholm: SECT B). The system was sold by Xtron Imaging Inc., Sectra's new distribution partner for Canada.

Four of Trillium Imaging Associates' clinics ( http://www.radiologyassociates.ca) will be able to offer women mammography examinations with the same image quality at half the radiation dose of other healthcare providers in North America. This is achieved by using Sectra's unique photon counting (http://www.sectra.com/photon-counting) mammography system, Sectra MicroDose Mammography.
Canada is a large healthcare market. Today, most of the mammography systems in Canada are analog and there is growing demand for digital mammography systems.
"This is a strategic order for us as it is the first MicroDose order in North America. It will serve as an important reference for all of North America as well as being a first step into the highly quality-oriented Canadian healthcare market, in which women are very aware of their rights and well-being," says Jesper Soderqvist, President of Sectra's mammography operations.
With superior image quality, Sectra MicroDose Mammography generates half of the X-ray dose of any other mammography system, which is a huge benefit for examined women. Already today, this system contributes to significant reduction of radiation dose (http://newsroom.sectra.com/?p=589) in most major European mammography screening programs. It is installed in 18 European countries, as well as in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The availability of Sectra MicroDose Mammography on the US market is contingent on FDA approval.
