Predicto Community's Mobile Votes Forecast Nominees in Expanded Oscar Field
Snackable Media's Mobile Prediction Service Tallies Poll Results as Members Calculate Favorites and Surprises among Academy Awards Nominees
NEW YORK, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- For the first time in 67 years, there will be ten Best Picture nominees at the Oscars. This major change to the Academy Awards has everyone abuzz, including the mobile community at Predicto Mobile, a digital content service owned by Snackable Media. Members of the interactive SMS entertainment provider vote by text message to express their predictions about current events, including who will receive Oscar nods when nominations are announced on February 2.
With so many films eligible for Oscar's most prestigious category, Predicto Mobile voters have weighed in on whether some unconventional flicks will contend. The Academy hasn't honored an animated film with a Best Picture nomination since 1991's Beauty and the Beast, but 75% of Predicto voters believe that Pixar's Up will fly away with a nod.
One of 2009's biggest hits memorably featured an angry tiger, an angrier Mike Tyson and a slew of scandalous photos. Following The Hangover's surprise win for Best Comedy/Musical at the Golden Globes, there is talk that it could continue reaping awards at the Oscars. Predicto members agree, with 59% predicting that the zany comedy will receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
In the individual battles, Mo'Nique has been steamrolling the Best Supporting Actress competition at various awards shows, with multiple wins for her role in Precious. Considering her co-star Mariah Carey's champagne-fueled antics at the Palm Springs Film Festival, it could prove highly entertaining if Mimi was nominated, too. Predicto Mobile's community has high hopes, as 59% predict Carey will be an Oscar contender.
Arguably last year's biggest success story, Sandra Bullock's two blockbuster performances in The Proposal and The Blind Side scored a ton of accolades. Predicto voters have little doubt her lucky streak will continue: 78% voted that America's Sweetheart will receive her first Oscar nomination this year.
More mobile predictions on this year's Academy Awards nominees:
- 66% of Predicto voters think that Avatar will be nominated for Best Picture (but only 11% think Star Trek will).
- 78% voted that Michael Jackson's This Is It will be nominated for an Oscar.
- 71% see The Blind Side getting a Best Picture Oscar nod; 68% believe Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds will also receive one.
