Practice Fusion Reaches Beyond the Doctor's Office to Launch Seamless Device Data Integration
With API-integrated results, thousands of doctors using the free electronic health record (EHR) can now sync data from blood glucose meters, insulin pumps and electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings from mobile devices.
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Practice Fusion, the country's largest physician-patient community, today announced a new integration between its free, web-based EHR solution and two cutting-edge medical device companies, AliveCor Inc. and Diasend. This first-of-its-kind partnerships allow health care providers who use the AliveCor® Heart Monitor to receive real-time ECG recordings and users of the diasend® System to receive glucose/insulin reports directly within Practice Fusion's EHR, providing a more complete picture of their patient's health and enabling them to more effectively manage the increasing burden of cardiac disease and diabetes care in the U.S.

"The data explosion from the emergence of mobile medical devices has been impressive. However, to avoid overwhelming doctors and patients alike and to realize the potential of this surge in information, this data must be organized," said Matt Douglass, co-founder and vice president of platform, Practice Fusion. "Digital doctors equipped with device data in their EHR represent the next frontier of care, and have the unique ability to make more informed decisions with their patients by utilizing technology that finally marries data about a patient's everyday health with data collected in the exam room."
Key Facts:
- By integrating with Practice Fusion, the biggest cloud-based EHR platform, AliveCor and Diasend now reach the nation's largest physician-patient community.
- Medical professionals using Practice Fusion's EHR and the AliveCor Heart Monitor will be able to see a patient's ECG recording in the EHR seconds after the trace has been recorded by the AliveCor Heart Monitor.
- The AliveCor Heart Monitor provides cardiac assessments using an ECG recorder that attaches discretely on the back of most Android and iOS mobile devices, empowering patients and providers to cost-effectively monitor heart health anytime, anywhere.
- Clinicians using the diasend System will be able to receive blood glucose and insulin reports from blood glucose meters and insulin pumps directly in the EHR.
- Diasend is the market leader within diabetes data management with more than 80 compatible devices.
"Monitoring patient heart health no longer needs to be limited to hospitals and clinics with access to expensive equipment," says Euan Thomson, president and CEO, AliveCor. "Our integration with Practice Fusion empowers small, independent providers to stay aware of cardiac warning signs before they turn into something worse, directly within their EHR workflow."
"One of the challenges of chronic disease management is the multitude of different devices that providers have to work with," says Anders Sonesson, CEO of Diasend. "Our aim is to make it easier for healthcare professionals to receive and organize data from a variety of different diabetes-related devices. Now providers can use Practice Fusion to manage this data alongside the rest of their EHR records."
