Ponder App Debuts As The First User-Curated Feed Of The Best Photos And Videos From Around The World
Backed by Mark Cuban and the Tinder Founders, Ponder is the Only Photo/Video-Sharing App Where the User Decides What is Trending
LOS ANGELES, April 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ponder, the first photo/video-sharing app to democratize social media, debuts today with the launch of its anti-social network. Ponder is the only app where the user decides on what's trending based off the quality of their photos/videos as opposed to other social networks where what spreads is determined by an algorithm or the amount of followers someone has. Whether you have one follower or a million – your best videos and photos can be seen.
Key features include:
- Swipe up to "Push" a photo/video or swipe down to "Pass" on it – pushing content will make it spread to a wider audience, including those with similar tastes and friends
- Discover or get discovered – see photos/videos that are trending from around the globe and from people with similar tastes as you – this is based on what you've "Pushed" and who you're following
- Capture or upload a photo/video then add a caption to share it with the world
- The app is positive feedback only and drama-free – there are no comments and Ponder never discloses how many followers you have
"The key differentiator is that posts are designed to spread beyond your network of friends and followers. We show you a user-curated feed of photos and videos that have been pushed by your friends and others with similar tastes," says Co-founder and CEO William LeGate. "We are democratizing the discovery and distribution of your photos and videos, so instead of it being a popularity contest, it's a place where the best content spreads."
"On Ponder, you could have 50 followers and regularly get more than 50 pushes on your posts—something that's not currently possible on other apps," adds Co-founder and CMO Tyler Mateen. "We are leveling the playing field for every single person to have their content be seen by a larger audience. It doesn't matter if you're a celebrity or an influencer, you have the same opportunity as everyone else to have your content be discovered."
Ponder is founded by William LeGate, 21, and Tyler Mateen, 23. LeGate is a Thiel Fellow who taught himself to program at the age of 13 using online Stanford courses and has created over a dozen apps for the iPhone resulting in over 6 million downloads. Tyler Mateen is an original Tinder executive who made the app popular on college campuses nationwide.
Ponder is backed by Mark Cuban, Tinder Founders, Sean Rad and Justin Mateen, as well as Greylock Partners (early investors for social media companies like Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
Ponder is available for free to download in the App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ponder-anti-social-network/id949682640?mt=8. For more information, please visit http://pndr.co.
