ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Floridians deserve a new Senator who understands the stark fiscal reality that lies ahead of our nation, and Marco Rubio is ready to tackle the tough job of protecting taxpayers, according to the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF), the political action arm of the 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union. Today NTUCF announced that it would support Rubio to be the next Senator from Florida.

"Marco Rubio has been fighting to limit the reach of government into Floridians' wallets for over a decade," said NTUCF President Duane Parde. "As a leader in the Florida House of Representatives, Marco outlined bold proposals to limit government spending and reduce taxes for Sunshine State residents. We have every confidence he'll do the same in the U.S. Senate."
Parde praised Rubio for these and other past accomplishments on behalf of taxpayers. Rubio has introduced measures to cap government spending, passed innovative solutions to transportation problems, and fought for major tax reductions.
Unfortunately, Rubio's opponents, Representative Kendrick Meek and Governor Charlie Crist, have fought for a more expansive government. Despite portraying himself as a moderate, Crist supported an onerous disaster-insurance bailout scheme and actually lobbied for President Obama's failed $787 billion "stimulus" package.
Kendrick Meek also supported the stimulus bill, in addition to the government's takeover of health care. In addition, Meek's overall fiscal voting record has been consistently disappointing. According to National Taxpayers Union's annual Rating of Congress – based on every roll call vote affecting federal taxes, spending, debt, and regulation – Meek has earned scores low enough for a grade of "F" for each year he has been in office. In 2009, he scored a dismal 5 percent (the 2010 Rating has not yet been released).
"We look forward to welcoming Marco Rubio into the ranks of Taxpayers' Friends next Congress," Parde concluded. "Floridians should know that a vote for Marco Rubio is a vote for lower taxes, limited government, and a growing economy."
Note: NTUCF is the political action arm of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), the nation's oldest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. NTUCF's endorsement decisions require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a four-member committee.
