Plated Announces $35 Million in Series B Funding to Extend Leadership Position in Food Sustainability
NEW YORK, July 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Plated (Plated.com), the premium cook-at-home meal service, announced today $35 million in new funding with participation from existing investors including Greycroft Partners and Formation 8.
Plated will use this new round of funding to extend its leadership position in food sustainability. Funds will be invested in technology to further the development of a low-waste supply chain, and new regional fulfillment centers that connect customers to sustainably harvested, locally-farmed foods at honest prices.
"At Plated we are focused on building our company for who we call the 'Evolved Eater': Americans who care about food quality and transparency, and eating better for themselves and their communities," says Nick Taranto, Plated co-founder and co-CEO. "We are putting ingredient and environmental standards first, offering our customers a greater selection of antibiotic and hormone-free meats, sourced from local farms, fishermen and hand-selected local businesses."
The company has also spearheaded Food With Thought, an initiative that raises the standards of food consumption. "Sustainability is a pillar of our business, and we're thinking about our carbon footprint and reducing waste in every aspect of the supply chain," says Josh Hix, Plated co-founder and co-CEO. "We are piloting a new earth-friendly, 100% recycled and compostable insulation solution called jute, which will perform from a functional perspective and meet our customers' environmental standards."
Plated has more than doubled its customer base in the last year and is on track to accelerate. The company has over 400 employees and delivers to 95% of the country.
