Outside of China, the Western European market is one of the few markets to have mandated pedal-assist e-bicycles (most other regions allow throttle controlled e-bicycles). While China's battery market is largely lead acid based, the Western European and North American markets are more accepting of lithium ion batteries, because the quality and range are important enough to justify the higher cost.
