MALIBU, Calif., May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education and Psychology is now accepting applications for a new Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. The online program will prepare students to help couples and families live healthier, more fulfilling lives through psychotherapy in community counseling, educational or private practice settings.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors is projected to grow 19 percent by 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. Marriage and family therapists can work in a variety of settings, and are required to hold a master's degree to obtain licensure and practice in most states.
"We are thrilled to partner with 2U to develop an online delivery model for our M.A. in Clinical Psychology program. For more than half a century, Pepperdine has taken great pride in its on campus program, producing thousands of licensed marriage and family therapists and licensed professional clinical counselors," said Robert A. deMayo, PhD, Associate Dean of Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education and Psychology. "Our alumni provide direct service to communities in need, and are recognized as leaders in the field. The new online program will make the same high quality education available to working adults who are not able to relocate or study on campus. We are excited to expand the reach of our programs, and fulfill the university's mission to prepare students for lives of purpose, service and leadership."
Students will use an advanced online learning platform and technology-enabled services delivered by 2U, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU). The platform facilitates live, face-to-face online classes in an intimate seminar-style setting, as well as engaging, interactive course content. Psychology@Pepperdine also includes a clinical requirement, with students completing 700 hours of work in clinical settings near their home communities. Clinical placements allow students to gain hands-on counseling experience under the supervision of Pepperdine faculty who are skilled clinicians currently working in the field of psychology.
The final application deadline is August 18, 2017, and the first cohort of students will begin classes in October. For more information, visit onlinepsych.pepperdine.edu or contact an admissions counselor at [email protected].
