Pennsylvania's Oldest Pro-Business PAC First Endorsement for Tom Corbett for Re-election
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The state's oldest pro-business political action committee, PEG PAC, today became the first organization to endorse Tom Corbett's re-election as Governor of Pennsylvania. PEG PAC was also the first to endorse his 2004 election as Attorney General, his 2008 re-election as Attorney General, and his 2010 campaign for Governor.
"As the state's oldest pro-business political action committee, PEG PAC is seen as a leader in the business community's political engagement efforts," said PEG PAC Chairman Gary Veshecco, SVP, Law and Deputy General Counsel of Erie Insurance. "As we did in his past three successful statewide campaigns, PEG PAC will again lead the way in engaging business leaders, their employees and voters across the state to support Tom Corbett."
Founded in 1972, PEG PAC is the affiliated political action committee of the Pennsylvania Business Council (PBC).
"Governor Corbett's kept his promise to manage the state in a long-term fiscally responsible manner," said PBC Chair Kathy L. Pape, President of Pennsylvania American Water. "For that he's earned the respect of those of us in the private sector who must also do the same. The governor's policies are helping the state's job creators grow our economy and get people back to work."
PBC President & CEO David W. Patti noted that Corbett inherited a budget deficit of more than $4 billion which he erased without raising taxes. "We will help remind voters the Governor kept his promises to balance the budget without raising taxes, to reform the way Harrisburg operates, and to grow the state's economy."
Patti said Pennsylvanians appreciate Corbett's fiscal discipline. "Just as Pennsylvania families had to tighten their belts the past several years to get through the economic downturn, state government did the same. Governor Corbett has not engaged in the budget games and sleight of hand so popular in Washington, D.C."
Patti said that Governor Corbett has earned praise for many initiatives, including signing the Fair Share Act, which put into place badly-needed tort reforms which will enable state businesses to grow and prosper, initiating business tax reform, and reducing the state's unemployment compensation liabilities. "Governor Corbett and his administration have ably guided the state as it oversees the responsible development of the Marcellus Shale formation – a game changer for the Commonwealth. They are reducing the cost of doing business in Pennsylvania, making the state more competitive, and creating family sustaining jobs."
The Governor this week will launch his re-election campaign.
