Pennsylvania State Police Graduates 91 New Cadets
Purple Heart Awarded to Trooper Bradley Wilson of DuBois Barracks
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Commissioner Frank Noonan announced that 91 men and women have joined the ranks of the Pennsylvania State Police following their graduation today from the State Police Academy in Hershey.
The ceremony was held at Founder's Hall at Milton Hershey School. State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan and Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin spoke at the ceremony. Cadet Joseph A. Traino, Jr., of Dalton, Lackawanna County, spoke on behalf of the cadet class. Cadet Traino was also named the outstanding cadet by his classmates and instructors, receiving the American Legion Award.
Also receiving awards were:
- Cadet Francine M. Gibson, of North East, Erie County– Daniel F. Dunn High Scholastic Award;
- Cadet Brian P. Irvin, of Orrtana, Adams County– Charles B. Gesford High Pistol Award;
- Cadet Alan M. Krall, of Cogan Station, Lycoming County – Col. Paul J. Chylak Memorial Driver Proficiency Award; and
- Cadet Nathan Conway, of Dunmore, Lackawanna County – John K. Schafer Memorial Physical Fitness Award.
Major Adam Kisthardt, director of the state police Bureau of Training and Education, supervised the training of the class, which was the 139th class to graduate from the State Police Academy in Hershey since its opening in 1960.
The graduates have been assigned to stations within twelve troop areas across the state and will report to their stations effective Monday, November 24th.
Additionally, Trooper Bradley Wilson of the DuBois Barracks was presented with a department Purple Heart Award at the ceremony. Tpr. Wilson was shot twice and critically injured while serving a search warrant with other law enforcement officers on Sept. 26, 2013. His injuries resulted in significant paralysis and his recovery has been long and difficult.
