Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Returns More than $2 Million in Licensing Fees to Pennsylvania Communities
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As local governments continue struggling to fund critical services, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board today announced it was returning approximately $2.4 million in licensing fees to almost 1500 municipalities where licensees are located.
"From the very beginning, the PLCB and the General Assembly have worked together to provide communities, which are home to licensees, with financial assistance," said PLCB Chairman Patrick J. "PJ" Stapleton III. "While the amount varies by community, the agency's steadfast commitment to supporting local government and those it serves remains the same."
The PLCB oversees the regulation of more than 17,000 liquor licenses and permits state-wide, including restaurants, clubs and beer distributors. As part of their annual renewal or license validation, licensees and permitees pay a fee ranging from $125 to $700, based on the type of license and population of the municipality in which the license is located.
Municipalities in each of Pennsylvania's 67 counties receive funds ranging from $25.00 to more than $375,000 bi-annually, depending on the number of licensees located in their area.
"Throughout the years, the PLCB has encouraged communities to use the funds to support law enforcement efforts promoting responsible consumption, however, we understand each communities needs are unique," said Stapleton. "We're confident these funds will help to further fund programs and services that are vital to Pennsylvania families."
