CANONSBURG, Pa. and SPRINGFIELD, Pa., June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- What began as a shared initiative among two chambers of commerce and two local labor organizations now has grown into a multi-faceted, broad-based coalition that supports private investments in pipelines and other energy infrastructure as a way to fuel Pennsylvania's industrial and economic renaissance.
The Pennsylvania Energy Infrastructure Alliance (PEIA) today marks its one-year anniversary, with 30 statewide members comprising labor, agriculture, conservation groups, the manufacturing sector, and other industrial and business interests --- all focused on finding ways to capitalize on Pennsylvania's emergence as an energy leader.
Over the last year, PEIA has become a leading voice on infrastructure development. Among some of the group's achievements:
- Launched an online video series that allows the direct and indirect beneficiaries of pipeline investments to tell their stories.
- Served as a credible source of information in appearances on public affairs programs and in the media, whether through interviews or via commentary.
- Provided testimony at numerous public events and hearings across the state, including the Governor's Pipeline Infrastructure Task Force.
- Organized events independently and within member organizations to provide a "speakers bureau" that enables individuals to talk about the benefits of energy infrastructure investments.
- Informed elected officials and regulators about the growing and motivated group of residents and organizations that support necessary energy infrastructure projects to grow the state economy.
PEIA members focused not just on the economic development opportunities that come from investments in infrastructure, but also on enhanced safety from responsible development. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, pipelines outperform all other types of infrastructure in safety, efficiency, reliability, environmental stewardship and cost.
As new pipeline projects are proposed and existing networks expanded, PEIA membership is expected to grow as more individuals realize the benefits from increased access to affordable natural gas and natural gas liquids.
The alliance was launched June 8 by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Laborers International Union of North America and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66.
