Community Supports Neighbors in Need this Holiday Season as NYC Food Pantries Experience Shortages

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Dec. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Peapod by Stop & Shop, the country's leading online grocer which delivers to all of New York's five boroughs, today donated $10,000 worth of groceries to the Recovery House of Worship (RHOW), a Brooklyn church that offers a variety of ministries to the community including a weekly food pantry. Together with Brooklyn community members, Peapod team members assembled 400 bags of groceries that included hearty and healthy non-perishables that will be delivered via the RHOW's food pantry, which serves hundreds of food insecure community members each week.

The donation comes at a time when, according to the Food Bank for New York City, 80 percent of the city's food pantries have experienced an increase in demand in the past year, resulting in widespread food shortages.*
