Presidential candidates Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain and Thad McCotter have joined the tour so far. On Friday afternoon, Rick Santorum will speak at bus stops in Boone and Marshalltown. On Friday evening at 8:30 p.m., the Values Bus will arrive at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames where it will be greeted by presidential candidate Michele Bachmann. U.S. Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) will also join with Family Research Council Action President Tony Perkins, National Organization for Marriage President Brian Brown, and Susan B. Anthony List's Marilyn Musgrave.
Connie Mackey, Chairman of Family Research Council's Faith Family Freedom Fund, made the following comments:
"As we travel across the state, we are meeting caucus-goers who support different presidential candidates but are broadly united by certain principles, not the least of which are the beliefs that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, and that innocent unborn life should be protected.
"We are experiencing the downgrade of our economy. However, the horrendous downgrading of our culture during the Obama years dovetails with the economy in so many ways. The breakdown of the family ultimately leads the government (with our taxes) to replace the intact family. The people of Iowa get it.
"Next week, Mr. Obama will follow our bus tour with his own 'listening' tour. This is a President who not only doesn't listen, he doesn't care about what's on the minds of those in the Midwest. Mr. Obama's presidency is all about more government and less freedom, which is why he refuses to come to realistic terms with our budget crisis and why he won't listen to Iowans who believe in balancing our budget and paying our debts," concluded Mackey.
