The Flight 93 National Memorial will honor the men and women of Flight 93, whose plane crashed in Shanksville, PA, when they took action to stop the terrorists from reaching their intended target in Washington, DC, as part of the September 11th attacks.
"In the eight and a half years since September 11th, we have not forgotten the extraordinary courage of the men and women of Flight 93," said Secretary Tom Ridge, honorary co-chair of the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign. "It is for their valor, their sacrifice and their enduring spirit that we are creating a national memorial in honor of these forty heroes."
"As we think about Memorial Day and Independence Day this summer, we want to remember the men and women of Flight 93, and the example they set for us all," said John H. Pinkerton, chairman and CEO of Range Resources Corporation. "The story of Flight 93 is a lesson we can all learn from. Range Resources is proud to help engage the American people in the process of building a national memorial to these brave men and women."
Memorial Match contributions to the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign will support building the Memorial. Over $17 million has been donated to the Campaign but additional gifts are needed to complete the entire vision for the Memorial.
The Flight 93 National Memorial will be the only 9/11 site that is a National Park Site, meaning that it is owned entirely by citizens. It will join 29 other memorials in the National Park System which help to commemorate ideals and lessons that are central to the American experience.
Construction of the Memorial is currently underway and a dedication ceremony is planned for the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks in 2011.

ABOUT THE FLIGHT 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL
The Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign is working to preserve the courageous story of the passengers and crewmembers of Flight 93; and protect the place near Shanksville, PA, where their hijacked plane crashed on September 11, 2001. It is believed that without the decisive action of the passengers and crew, the terrorists would have used the plane to attack a site in Washington, DC. The National Park Foundation is leading a national capital campaign to build the memorial, renew the historic landscape, and promote educational learning about the events of 9/11.
