Panasonic launches MVNO services for connected products at Mobile World Congress
BARCELONA, March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic has launched its own Mobile Virtual Network Operator service, allowing its business devices to connect seamlessly with the M2M cloud.
The first trials of the new network were demonstrated today (Monday 2nd March) at a press conference at Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, Spain.
The company said that it will begin to integrate mobile connectivity across product lines, allowing them to access new Panasonic M2M cloud services. These could include remote monitoring, data collection and analysis - driving efficiency and reliability.
The first product to utilise the M2M network will be the Panasonic Nubo, the industry's first mobile connected 4G monitoring camera. Launching at MWC, this portable camera offers users the freedom and flexibility of being deployed across a variety of locations and use cases, without the need for a power or Wi-Fi connection. Nubo will be launched alongside a mobile app for control and monitoring, add-ons like external battery and sensor packs, as well as a secure cloud storage system to enable seamless management of data and videos for the user.
Panasonic also announced two M2M services utilising the Mobile Virtual Network.
Remote projector and display monitoring allows Panasonic visual products to be monitored remotely so that 'the show always goes on'. Key performance data such as on/off status, lamp life and temperature is transmitted to the cloud, allowing predictive maintenance and optimising product up-time. Time consuming work such as lamp replacement, filter cleaning and maintenance is then scheduled intelligently by the customer, who can even have the full service outsourced to Panasonic.
At Cardiff University, Panasonic is monitoring projectors remotely from its European Service HQ in South Wales, enabling academics to maintain a consistent learning environment for students.
In addition, Panasonic Heating and Cooling Solutions can now be monitored and controlled remotely via the Panasonic M2M network, allowing maximum uptime and significant savings in energy and carbon emissions. A leading European supermarket chain is currently trialling this service in some stores in Europe.
Masaki Arizono, Managing Director of PSCEU said, "As one of the world's leading electronics manufacturers, our new M2M network is the start of a strategic transformation. It is the first step in making our vast portfolio of products M2M capable, helping our customers to make their infrastructure and business processes intelligent. The results for our customers are simple network infrastructure, less capital tied up in stock, and improved customer service."
The Global MVNO project complements a domestic MVNO for the Japanese market, launched in October 2014.
"Increasingly, our connected products are bridging the gap between our traditional consumer heritage and our increased B2B focus. Panasonic Nubo is an example of this kind of cross-over product, it utilises M2M technologies, but is targeted to consumers who are looking for freedom and flexibility in use and deployment," added Mr Arizono.
Finally, Panasonic announced the establishment of Panasonic Business Software Solutions Europe, formed following the acquisition of DHL Digital Solutions, a team within DHL Specialist Services UK. The new company offers advanced software for the control and management of logistics and supply chain.
Laurent Abadie, CEO of Panasonic Europe, commented, "The establishment of Panasonic Business Software Solutions Europe is an important step towards our strategy of offering business customers a one-stop-shop for the design, roll out and operation of their business solutions. Our connected products, virtual mobile network, software and services provide the building blocks for advanced M2M solutions. When combined with our direct account approach and project management capabilities, our enterprise customers can roll out their solutions faster and with less risk. We think this is unique in the industry."
