Origins Rocks Earth Month for the Third Year in a Row
Annual Music Celebration Benefiting Mother Nature to Feature Gavin DeGraw and Vanessa Carlton
NEW YORK, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of Earth Month 2012 and its Global Earth Initiatives, Origins, the skin care brand that is powered by nature and proven by science, will partner with Gavin DeGraw and Vanessa Carlton to perform at the third annual Origins Rocks Earth Month, a FREE concert taking place in New York City on April 18, 2012 at Webster Hall. To extend the celebration and raise environmental awareness around the world, the global brand will also produce concerts in Taipei on April 13 with co-headliners A-Lin and Alan Kao and in Berlin on April 12 with headliner Johannes Strate. The concert series furthers Origins Global Plant-A-Tree Program, as the brand will plant a tree on behalf of each concert attendee through American Forests' Global ReLeaf™.
"Earth Month is a special time of year for Origins; it offers us the perfect platform for celebrating our Global Earth Initiatives, programs we've implemented over the years that reaffirm our commitment to Mother Nature," announces Jane Lauder, Global President/General Manager of Origins. "We're thrilled to see Origins Rocks Earth Month reach a new level of success in 2012 with concerts in Asia, Europe and North America."
Additionally, Origins is on the hunt for an emerging "green" band, as the brand hosts its second annual "Green Band Search". Origins invites bands that are as passionate about the planet as they are about playing to submit an original piece of music to underscore a 1:20 minute video that Origins created showcasing the brand's commitment to recycling, tree planting and saving the planet. Submissions open on March 19 at http://originsmusic.sonicbids.com and voting opens to the public on March 29, concluding April 5 - fans will choose the winner. The winning band will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Origins Rocks Earth Month and will open for Gavin and Vanessa. They'll also win VIP access and "rock star" treatment on the Green Carpet.
Given the immense consumer interest in previous Origins Rocks Earth Month concerts, Origins will be live streaming and rebroadcasting this year's New York concert. The concert will stream live on April 18 at 8:00PM EDT and rebroadcast twice on April 19 at 7:00AM EDT and 2:00PM EDT. The following URL links directly to the live stream and re-broadcasts: www.origins.com/liveconcert. Additional trees will be planted on behalf of live stream viewers.
"I'm really excited to perform at the third annual Origins Rocks Earth Month concert and help bring awareness to the environment, a cause close to my heart," explains Gavin DeGraw. "I'm very happy to be part of a concert that encourages people to protect the planet," adds Vanessa Carlton.

ORIGINS ON-GOING EARTH INITIATIVES
PLANT-A-TREE CAMPAIGN
In 2009, Origins launched its Plant-A-Tree Campaign in partnership with American Forests' Global ReLeaf™; an education and action program that helps individuals, agencies and corporations improve the local and global environment by planting and caring for trees. Since the launch of this successful campaign, Origins has aided reforestation projects by helping to plant more than 153,000 trees around the world. In addition to planting trees on behalf of concert attendees and live streaming viewers of Origins Rocks Earth Month, from April 18-24 Origins will plant a tree through Global ReLeaf™ in honor of each customer who purchases any Origins skin care product. In addition, customers will receive a FREE "Wish on a Tree" bracelet, so they can further reiterate their commitment to protecting the planet.
TRADE IN PROGRAM
On Earth Day (April 22, 2012), customers are invited to "trade in" any one of their existing skin care products, regardless of brand for an Origins high-performance moisturizer, while supplies last at Origins retail stores and department store counters for FREE. Customers will have the choice between A Perfect World™ SPF 25 Age-defense moisturizer with White Tea and Starting Over™ Age-erasing moisturizer with Mimosa. All cosmetic packaging collected will be recycled or responsibility converted to energy through the Return to Origins Recycling Program.
RETURN TO ORIGINS RECYCLING PROGRAM
As an ongoing, year-round prong to the Origins Global Earth Initiative, the Return to Origins Recycling Program is another vehicle for Origins to help consumers protect the planet. Launched in 2009, this first-of-its-kind nationwide cosmetics recycling program offers consumers a place to drop off their empty cosmetic packaging – everything from bottles, tubes, jars and compacts, regardless of brand to be recycled or responsibly converted to energy. Customers also receive free samples as a thank you from Origins for participating. The Return to Origins Recycling Program is currently ongoing in North America, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Since the launch of the program Origins has recycled more than 24,000 pounds of cosmetic packaging.

ABOUT VANESSA CARLTON
Vanessa Carlton released her fourth studio album, Rabbits On The Run (Razor & Tie), in 2011 to critical acclaim. Carlton appeared/performed on such TV shows as The Tonight Show, Today Show, Conan, Chelsea Lately, The CBS Early Show and was featured on NPR's Weekend Edition. Rabbits on the Run was recorded in the UK at Peter Gabriel's world-renowned Real World Studios with producer Steve Osborne (U2, B-52's, KT Tunstall, Doves). The 10-song set of gorgeous, haunting melodies and finely-crafted stories finds Vanessa returning to music-making in its most organic as she recorded the music directly to tape with her close-knit team of collaborators - Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), and Ari Ingber (The Upwelling) both playing on the album. Partly inspired by two books, Richard Adams' Watership Down and Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time, Rabbits on the Run is the most honest and uncompromising album of Vanessa Carlton's career, revealing a striking departure and an exciting snapshot into the evolution of this exquisite storyteller and inventive musician. Three Grammy nominations, three studio albums, platinum sales and a collection of hit songs are some notable results of a fruitful career thus far for Vanessa Carlton. She first exploded onto the scene in 2002 with her stunning debut Be Not Nobody, and world-wide hit single"A Thousand Miles." Vanessa Carlton first began playing the piano as a toddler, continuing on an artistic road with her attendance at the School of American Ballet in New York, a path she would eventually abandon in favor of songwriting. While studying at Columbia University in New York City, Carlton was signed to Interscope Records and has since released three albums featuring songs such as "A Thousand Miles," "White Houses," and "Nolita Fairytale." Carlton's music has resonated with audiences of all ages world-wide and she continues to inspire an increasingly loyal fan base. Vanessa Carlton is managed by Career Artist Management (CAM). www.vanessacarlton.com
