Oregon's Department of Transportation selects Azuga as a Commercial Account Manager for its Road Usage Charge Program
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Azuga, a leader in the connected car market is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a Commercial Account Manager (CAM) for the Oregon Department of Transportation's (ODOT's) Road Usage Charge Program (RUCP). With this selection, motorists will be able to enjoy the benefits of Azuga's industry leading connected vehicle technology while participating in ODOT's innovative road funding initiative. As directed by Oregon's Senate Bill 810, the RUCP must give motorists choices for the technologies they use to report miles driven, as well as how they manage and pay their road use charges. In addition, vehicle owners will have the opportunity to obtain services through nongovernmental entities for cost-effective market-driven options.
"Our vision is to create a reliable, easy-to-use, low cost, enforceable, and publicly acceptable 'open' system that replaces the declining fuels tax," said Jim Whitty, Manager of ODOT's Office of Innovative Partnerships and Alternative Funding. "More than just mileage reporting, Azuga's technology and services will empower Oregonians with choices and information that improve their driving experience and suit their lifestyles."
Azuga will offer its easy-to-use product to Oregon motorists as a means of measuring their miles driven for the road usage program. The product includes a self-installable device, customer friendly website and a suite of handy mobile applications, which include: parked car locater, destination notification and point of interest finder to name a few. With years of experience delivering innovative products to the connected car space, Azuga delivers the driver's "Swiss Army Knife" of personal automobile technology devices. Azuga has earned the trust of some of the world's most demanding customers and realizes the importance of accurate, precise data.
"We're excited to provide a safe, secure and easy-to-use service for the everyday driver who chooses to participate in Oregon's RUCP," said Azuga's Nate Bryer, VP of Innovation and Marketing. "Azuga has a passion for doing things right, and we want consumers to know they can trust our company and services."
About ODOT RUCP
Oregon's Senate Bill 810 was the first legislation in the U.S. to establish a road usage charge system for state transportation funding. It authorized ODOT to set up a mileage collection system for volunteer motorists beginning July 1, 2015. ODOT may assess a charge of 1.5 cents per mile for up to 5,000 cars and light commercial vehicles and issue a fuels tax refund to those participants. The volunteer program will not be another pilot project but rather the start of an alternate method of generating sustainable revenue to pay for Oregon highways.
