HONG KONG, Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA), the global organization where members work together to advance the deployment of enterprise cloud solutions and services that are interoperable, secure and free of vendor lock-in, today announced its partnership with the Asia Cloud Computing Association (ACCA). ODCA Board Member Xinhua Zong, General Manager, IT & E-Commerce Business Unit, China Unicom, made the announcement at Cloud World Forum Asia where he also welcomed four China-based companies as new members of the Alliance.
Joined on stage by Lim May-Ann, Executive Director of the ACCA, Zong explained that the ODCA and ACCA's collaborative partnership will extend the Alliance's reach in the Asia-Pacific region and provide the ACCA a global partner deeply focused on data center infrastructure. The two organizations expect the collaboration to yield new content, advocacy and best practices across both membership bases.
"With ongoing information sharing and joint advocacy by the ODCA and ACCA, this collaboration will provide a broader platform for both organizations to understand the challenges and opportunities that data centers and cloud computing offer in the enterprise economy," Zong explained.
"The ACCA and ODCA share a common vision to foster relationships with the cloud ecosystem's policymakers and to advocate for best practices in public policy for cloud and data management," added Lim. "The synergies between our organizations will help drive enterprise adoption of cloud computing across Asia."
Zong also announced the recent membership of four China-based companies in the ODCA. SINA, China Quality Certification Centre, Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd., and CNLink Networks Ltd. joined the organization as adopter members in 2014. Adopter members are committed to using the Alliance's Usage Models to guide their data center purchase and planning decisions. They play an active role in the organization's workgroups and events, and are approved for membership by the organization's Steering Group.
ODCA board member Haoyang Lu, Planner and Architect for China Unicom Group was also on hand to share a cloud computing adoption case study as a keynote speaker at Cloud World Forum Asia. In his presentation, Private Cloud Strategy at China Unicom: Collaboration with ODCA, Lu introduced China Unicom's private cloud strategy from the enterprise IT user's perspective, shared the methodology and best practices China Unicom leveraged, and explained how the company worked with the ODCA to develop its private cloud adoption plan and apply the Alliance's usage models to deploy cloud solutions.
Lu's corresponding paper, ODCA-China Unicom and Three-Tiered Architecture is available for download in the ODCA content library. China Unicom is creating a centralized, three-tiered, cloud-enabled IT infrastructure. Using ODCA tools, the company is implementing the capabilities of infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, and software as a service with the long-term goal of running IT in a hybrid cloud.
