OnStar Supports NHTSA's Annual Click It or Ticket Campaign
Advisors to Remind Subscribers to Buckle Up
DETROIT, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- OnStar announced its support of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) annual Click It or Ticket campaign, May 24 through June 6, to enforce safety belt use laws. In support of this effort, OnStar advisors will remind subscribers to buckle their seat belts in order to save lives and prevent injuries.
"Safety is our overarching commitment to the more than 5.5 million subscribers that we serve, and seat belts are the most important safety system in the vehicle," said Scott Kubicki, vice president of subscriber services, OnStar. "Increasing the national belt use rate through The Click it or Ticket campaign can save lives. OnStar applauds the efforts of law enforcement officers and safety officials and we are proud to support NHTSA."
The Click It or Ticket campaign is a simple, zero-tolerance initiative to get drivers and their passengers to buckle up while driving. Drivers who are not secured in a seat belt may be subject to get a ticket from law enforcement. According to NHTSA, in 2008 alone, seat belts saved 13,250 lives nationwide and when used, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent – and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans.
OnStar subscribers can expect a seat belt safety reminder at the end of a subscriber-initiated OnStar button press call.
