Online Teaching Platform Fedora Rebrands as Teachable

The teacher first company in a similar space as Udemy and Coursera changes name to reflect commitment to teachers

NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After paying out over 3 million dollars to people teaching online, Fedora, a platform that helps people create and sell online courses, rebrands as Teachable solidifying its mantra--teachers first.

As the interest in massive open online courses (MOOCs) continues to grow, Teachable finds its niche among those who want to generate income while sharing their skills through an online course. This differs from other popular online course creation platforms like Udemy and Coursera who target students rather than teachers.

"Our company started as a side-project to scratch an itch," said Teachable CEO and Founder Ankur Nagpal, "I was teaching courses on Udemy with our now co-founder. We were making some money, but it appeared unwise to market courses to students that we had no direct access to, so I locked myself in a room for three days and built the first version of Teachable to sell my mobile marketing course directly to people."

This contrasts a popular habit by other course creation platforms to discount courses without informing teachers beforehand.

This is especially important as the EdTech industry continues to receive 100 billion dollar plus market projections (according to Forbes). Everyone wants a piece of the proverbial pie.

With these priorities set, Teachable maintains a 40% month on month SaaS revenue growth rate and seven figure run rate after raising over 2 million in seed stage funding.

To-date the platform powers over 5,000 online instructors, many of whom see the technology as a way to monetize their already existing online audiences and generate high ROI income. Popular instructors include Les Brown, Kimberly Snyder, Jerry Jenkins and Lewis Howes.

Notoriety is not preclusive to online success.

Mariah Coz, founder of Femtrepreneur, ran a blog that she monetized through an Etsy shop until she started selling online courses. Coz made $120,000 in course sales in her first year and is on track to do 1 million in the next year.
