Pioneers Fresh Take on Retail with Store & Café Concept
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tuft & Needle (www.TN.com), the industry pioneer that was the first to develop a single, universal mattress sold online, introduces a radically new approach to the mattress retail store experience with the launch of its flagship store in San Francisco opened to the public on January 15, 2016. The Tuft & Needle Store is located in the Design District within SoMa at 637 King Street, San Francisco, CA, 94107. The Tuft & Needle Store is the first permanent stand-alone storefront for the brand, and is a physical extension of Tuft & Needle's award-winning digital brand and customer experience.
The Tuft & Needle Store gives people in the bay area the opportunity to interact with the mattress and more deeply connect with the brand before placing an order. Unlike the traditional mattress retail shopping experience, The Tuft & Needle Store excludes commissioned salespeople, deceptive selling practices and the complexity of choice. Instead, The Tuft & Needle Store provides guests the opportunity to experience the Tuft & Needle Mattress in the comfort of semi-private, thoughtfully designed rooms with assistance from the T&N customer experience team who will provide transparent information about Tuft & Needle and the mattress industry.
If the guest would like to purchase a Tuft & Needle Mattress at the end of the visit, the Tuft & Needle customer experience team member assists the guest through the online purchase process, and the mattress is delivered free of charge right to the customer's door within 2 business days.
The 1,500 sq. ft. two-story San Francisco space was designed to enhance the guest experience through a minimal, yet comfortable aesthetic. The ground floor features two floor-to-ceiling circular partitions made of rope that form semi-private bedrooms while maintaining the soft natural light during the day and accentuating the 20' height of the space. An alcove of maple wood includes a collectors wall of considered decor that celebrates the company's pillars of make, fix and truth. Guests will find accents of copper and desert plants within the space, a homage to the company's headquarters and roots in Phoenix, Arizona. The anchor to this uniquely branded alcove is the Tuft & Needle Cafe. The full menu coffee bar features a unique blend roasted by locally based Ritual Coffee, and is available to all guests and neighborhood residents to enjoy. Guests are welcome to explore two additional bedroom displays on the mezzanine or have a seat at the work bar overlooking the ground floor.
JT Marino, CEO and co-founder of Tuft & Needle, stated, "When we started Tuft & Needle, we wanted to do the opposite of what other mattress brands were doing. Other mattress brands seem to be motivated by margins, profit and stockholder value, but completely neglected the most important element–the customer experience. So we opened a store in San Francisco where the experience is what we wanted when we shopped for a mattress. A stress-free environment where the metric of success is not profits or sales, but entirely focused on customer satisfaction."
The Tuft & Needle Customer Experience team answers guests' product questions about the Tuft & Needle foam, a new category of foam invented by the company. It is the next evolution beyond memory foam. It features the pressure relief benefits of memory foam, but it's more lively, providing more support and enhanced breathability. The T&N foam cells are energetic which allows the foam to adjust to each individual that sleeps on the mattress. Unlike memory foam, it does not remember where the sleeper lays, therefore eliminating the creation of an unleveled sleeping surface that is associated with memory foam mattresses. The T&N mattress is designed & manufactured in the United States in Southern California.
The Tuft & Needle Store is the brand's first stand-alone store. Located at 637 King Street, San Francisco, CA, 94107, on the south side of King Street, across from the Adobe Headquarters. Hours of operation are weekdays 10am-7pm, and Saturday & Sunday 10am-6pm. Walk-ins are welcome and no appointment is necessary.
