Event to provide direction for ICD-10 compliance leading up to October 2014 deadline
WASHINGTON, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- National Coordinator for Health IT Farzad Mostashari, MD, will deliver the opening keynote presentation at the ICD-10 Forum at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Washington D.C., June 17-18. The forum will provide information essential to helping healthcare leaders guide their organizations to ICD-10 compliance by the October 2014 deadline.
Dr. Mostashari has served as the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services since April 2011. He joined the ONC as deputy national coordinator in July 2009.
A well-known and sought-after speaker, Dr. Mostashari leads the nation in constructing a healthcare system that uses information and technology to empower individuals, and improve both the health and health care of Americans. He first joined ONC as its deputy national coordinator in July 2009. During his tenure in this position, he developed a series of grant programs to promote electronic health record adoption, furthered the development of health information exchange, and helped construct the workforce development program
In his speech, Dr. Mostashari will share the value of moving to ICD-10 compliance emphasizing:
- ICD-10's role in setting the platform for future federal mandates;
- Issues with interoperability, testing and big data;
- ONC's orchestration of the ICD-10 effort;
- Current changes underway with ICD-10; and
- Costs involved with the change to ICD-10.
"As our opening keynote speaker, Dr. Mostashari will set the tone for our two days of programming, exhibits and networking on ICD-10 compliance. We are pleased he can join us to provide his insights and knowledge on how best to navigate and meet the impending October 2014 deadline for ICD-10 compliance," says Richard Scarfo, Vice President, Events, HIMSS Media.
Led by HIMSS, the two-day ICD-10 Forum connects attendees with high-level speakers from the Workgroup for Electronic Data Exchange, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, National Government Services, and members of the ICD-10 National Pilot Program to gain valuable insights into the ICD-10 conversion process. Their presentations will emphasize the critical need for interoperability between systems at launch of ICD-10. Thus, testing must occur before the launch date with clean claims and a proper submission process vital to success. Building on those themes, the event will also offer:
- best practices on strategic planning and implementation;
- cost saving guidance with measures designed for testing; and
- physician engagement and practical CDI strategy.
In addition, all attendees can access standardized ICD-10 test case scenarios at no charge during the event. Featured exhibitors at the forum include: CareCloud, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Cerner, General Dynamics Information Technology, Health Language, Lott QA Group, MedeAnalytics, Nachimson Advisors, LLC, Practice Management Information Corporation, VitalWare, and Wolters Kluwer.
The June ICD-10 Forum is the first in a series of three comprehensive two-day programs produced by HIMSS Media. For more information, please visit the ICD-10 Forum website at www.icd10pilot.com.
