WALL, N.J., June 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BIO-key International, Inc. Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI), the twelfth largest non-profit regional blood center in America is incorporating BIO-key's patented fingerprint identification solution to provide blood donors with a fast and convenient method to establish their identity. This solution automates the donor check in process and protects donor privacy by eliminating the need for donors to produce sensitive identification forms, such as driver licenses or social security numbers. With just the simple touch of the donor's finger the software can search the OBI database to provide positive ID, reducing the check-in time and virtually eliminating human errors during the check-in process.
"At OBI, we recognize the importance of providing convenience for our donors and protecting their identity. Using the BIO-key ID solution, we are able to protect our donor's privacy while reducing the chance of duplicate donor IDs and aliases in our system," said John Armitage, M.D., Oklahoma Blood Institute president and chief executive. "We are constantly looking for ways to improve our donors' experiences and protect the integrity of the blood supply for Oklahomans."
"One of the key features that led to OBI choosing BIO-key's TruDonor identity solution is its ability to search the OBI database to positively identify a donor with the simple touch of a finger, without the need for other forms of identification or manual lookup," said Jim Sullivan, BIO-key International's Sales Director. "Another feature that differentiates us from other biometric identity solutions is our fingerprint reader independence. This enables enrollment, identification and verification to be performed by fingerprint scanners produced by any of the major fingerprint reader manufacturers. So popular laptops, tablet PCs, workstation keyboards and even cell phones that have integrated fingerprint readers can be used to establish the donor's ID."
Oklahoma Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed by patients in more than 150 medical facilities in Oklahoma and north central Texas with the help of nearly 700 employees working with as many as 800 volunteers and 2,600 drive coordinators. In addition to its headquarters and laboratories, donor centers are located in the Oklahoma City-area, Tulsa, Lawton, Enid, Ardmore, Ada and Ponca City. OBI also operates the Texas Blood Institute in Wichita Falls.
"This is the first major deployment that is the result of close collaboration with our partner Healthcare-ID, a leading solution provider to the Blood Center Industry," added Mike DePasquale, President & CEO of BIO-key International. Healthcare-ID provides solutions that automate the entry of accurate information at both fixed and mobile collection sites to eliminate disposal of collected blood units based on donor eligibility and suitability and significantly reduce the cost of blood collection.
