Ok Google, Turn on Wemo: Wemo Announces Compatibility with Google Home

PLAYA VISTA, Calif., Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Wemo^®, the award-winning smart home brand from Belkin International, today announced compatibility with Google Home and Google Assistant. With this new integration, all Wemo switches will work with Google Home, giving users hands-free, seamless control of their lights, fans and other household electronics using just their voice.

First launched in October, Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. It lets you easily stream music, get answers from Google, manage everyday tasks and control smart home devices. Wemo products that work with Google Home include the Wemo Switch, Wemo Insight Switch, and Wemo Light Switch.

Wemo works with Google Home via Google Assistant's industry-leading natural language processing technology, so users can reliably control any Wemo-connected device using natural speech patterns, not pre-set commands. Simply say the wake word, "Ok Google," followed by a request such as, "turn on the fan," and a Wemo-controlled fan will turn on. With Wemo and Google Home, it's easy to control almost any electronic device with an on/off switch, as well as built-in light fixtures like overhead lights, chandeliers and porch lights. Google Home also allows users to group Wemo devices together to control entire rooms or scenarios with a single statement. For example, saying "Ok Google, turn on the living room," can power on table lamps, overhead lights, and a window AC unit at the same time.

Availability

Google Home compatibility for Wemo will be available later this month via the Google Home App. To enable, users must be running Wemo firmware version 10885 or higher for both iOS and Android, which is available now. Wemo products are available at Belkin.com, Amazon.com and major retailers worldwide. Google Home is available now at select retailers nationwide.
