Oil Spill Investigation Concludes, Fallout Continues
Small businesses still being stifled by government policies months after gusher capped
BROUSSARD, La., Jan. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The causes of the BP oil spill were pinpointed in a recent report by the President's National Oil Spill Commission, but the fallout remains widespread. Local business owner Thomas Clements has seen his business cut in half and is fearful that unless he receives immediate help, his shop will close its doors this summer.
"BP is hand selecting who they'll pay because of their missteps, which amazingly does not include losses from the spill induced government moratorium – even though the moratorium is a direct result of BP's carelessness. Now, companies like mine have no relief and very little hope," Clements said.
"The moratorium was announced and all my orders were immediately cancelled, I would call that direct impact," said Clements. "After being denied two times by the BP claims process, I fear I will likely have to shut the doors on my business in June. We either need help, or we need government policies that allow us to return to work."
Thomas Clements owns Oilfield CNC Machining in Broussard, LA. The company supplies offshore drilling operations with specialty machine parts. The moratorium has forced him to lose 2 employees, and cut his revenue by $400,000 this year.
