NEW YORK, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Objectivity, Inc., a pioneer in high-performance distributed object-oriented database technology, today announced plans to enable its customers using ThingSpan, the company's recently announced Information Fusion platform, to push the fusion workflow into Intel's Trusted Analytics Platform (TAP), where it can be executed with a dramatic performance improvement when enriching organizations' big data with fast, streaming data. TAP is an open source project developed by Intel designed to make it easier and faster for data scientists to deploy big data analytics.
With the growth in the deployment of massive sensor networks, organizations have been facing challenges getting Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications into production. As a result, most organizations struggle to effectively use data from sensors and other streaming sources in their business operations. A recent report from McKinsey & Company on IoT stated that in many industries, less than 1 percent of sensor-based data is actually analyzed. The same report shows that better utilization of sensor-based data could lead to a positive impact of up to $11.1 Trillion per year by 2025 through improved productivities.
ThingSpan has been introduced to solve this issue for organizations everywhere. It is a purpose-built Information Fusion platform that simplifies and accelerates an organization's ability to deploy Industrial IoT applications. It is a massively scalable distributed platform designed specifically for the complex issue of extracting actionable insights from Fast Data and architected to integrate with major open source Big Data technologies. ThingSpan leverages Objectivity's core object data-modeling technology and the company's rich experience in building fusion solutions.
"TAP meets the needs of many organizations that are struggling to improve time-to-value of their analytic capabilities using a diverse array of big data technology components," says Jin Kim, vice president of Marketing and Partner Development for Objectivity. "In order to unlock the transformative potential of the Industrial IoT, our goal is to deliver information fusion technology in an easy-to-consume form."
TAP is developed by Intel and is an open source project that accelerates the creation of Cloud-native applications driven by Big Data Analytics. TAP makes it easier for developers and data scientists, at enterprises, CSPs and SIs, to collaborate by providing a shared, flexible environment for advanced analytics in public and private Clouds. Data scientists get extensible tools, scalable algorithms and powerful engines to train and deploy predictive models. Developers get consistent APIs, services and runtimes to quickly integrate these models into applications. System Operators get an integrated stack that they can easily provision in a Cloud infrastructure.
"One of the key goals of the TAP project, is to make it easier for developers and data scientists to collaborate by providing a shared, flexible environment for advanced analytics in public and private Clouds," said Ron Kasabian, VP and GM of Big Data Solutions at Intel. "Integrating with Objectivity's ThingSpan enriches the capabilities of Industrial IoT solutions based on Trusted Analytics Platform."
Objectivity has been working with its customers such as CGG, a leading integrated Geoscience company, for many years. The primary focus of the partnership has been on building Big Data management platforms based on object data models, and supporting migration of application technology to these platforms. Work is also ongoing with other partners around creating fused datasets from diverse sources of data, including fast data from sensors. Fast Data differs from other data in that it is generated in high volume and its value is time-sensitive. Many of today's technologies suffer from limitations that require increasingly complex skill sets to manage the increasing volume of sensor-based Fast Data available, and make real-time decisions. Objectivity plans to accelerate the time-to-production of Industrial IoT applications by leveraging ThingSpan's TAP capabilities.
With decades of experience supporting mission-critical applications and a deep domain expertise in Fast Data fusion, Objectivity's object- and relationship-oriented platforms are proven at scale and enterprise-hardened by Global 1000 customers and partners. This expertise has been infused for the first time in ThingSpan. Combined with native support for major open source initiatives like HDFS, YARN, Spark, and Kafka, ThingSpan finally delivers the solution that Industrial IoT industry leaders need in order to gain real-time insight into their data streams.
